Grounding

Published on 14 January 2025 at 19:44

Imagine this earth God provided us as being a key component to our health and healing.  It's so basic, so simple.

However, in today's society, many people go extended periods of time without connecting directly to the earth. People navigate their daily lives treading on concrete sidewalks and asphalt parking lots, their feet insulated by rubber-soled shoes, e disconnecting them from the ground beneath.

Grounding, also known as Earthing, offers many health benefits.

"The natural frequencies of the Earth that we speak of are waves of energy caused by the motions of subatomic particles call free electrons.

...It is these electrons that give the Earth's surface a natural, negative charge.  They are present, as science informs us, in a virtually limitless and continuously renewed supply, fed by the natural phenomena of rain and thousands of lightning strikes per minute.  Maintaining contact with the ground allows your body to naturally receive and become charged with these electrons.  When thus "grounded" you automatically absorb them, which in turn reduces electrical imbalances in the body and the oxidative free radicals involved in chronic inflammation and multiple diseases.  This is the theory behind Earthing."

So what are some ways you can ground?

  • The #1 most people enjoy is the beach!  The beach isn't just a vacation spot—it's a natural healing environment that can reset your body's electrical systems and provide profound relaxation.
  • Wade in a clear lake, swim in the ocean, walk in a stream

  • Walk barefoot on natural surfaces like grass, sand, dirt, or stone
  • Aim for at least 20 minutes twice a day, but even 10 minutes can be beneficial
  • Lie down on grass, sand, or natural ground (this is my favorite thing to do in summer.  I can feel the stress and tension leave my body)

Garden and work directly with soil in your flowerbeds.   Don't wear gloves.  Allow our hands to work the soil.

It's January here in WV and has been snowing for a month.  I MISS my garden!

How can I ground in Winter?

  • Go barefoot outside for 3-5 minutes, even on a snowy day
  • Wear wool or cotton socks while standing on natural surfaces like dirt, snow, or grass
  • Put your hands directly on the ground for a few minutes
  • Walk barefoot on an untreated concrete basement floor
  • Use a grounding mat while sleeping, working, or doing homework
  • use a walking stick when taking walks.  You will ground through the stick.
  • Tree hugging is not just for hippys!  Did you know you connect to the earth through the tree?  Hugging a tree releases oxytocin.  This hormone can reduce stress and increase feelings of happiness.
