It's about "thyme" to share this one!
Thyme is a great seasoning herb in the kitchen, but what about it's medicinal qualities?
Thyme has a long history of use in times of plagues to ward of illness.
1. Thyme is easily found in local grocery stores fresh or dried.
2. Thyme is an easy herb to grow in pots or your flower beds. It can take a lot of sun and doesn't require much water.
Medicinally:
Thyme is antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, antioxidant, antifungal, antimicrobial, an expectorant, anticandidal
Thyme is a potent, warming herb so therefore often combined with other herbs.

Harvesting Thyme
Harvest during the flowering stage. You want to harvest in early morning before the flowers open.
Dry or use fresh.

Take cold.

Applications

Steam
Herbal steam for congestion:
- 2 tsp thyme
- 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil
Bring water to boil and add herbs. Bring to a steam, not quite a boil and allow to steep 10 min. Use a towel to cover your face over the steam for 10min.

Tincture
- Fresh or dried thyme
- Vodka* (or any other drinkable alcohol with at least 80 proof/40 percent or vegetable glycerin
- One-pint mason jar with a lid, kept out of light
- Funnel
- Cheesecloth or Fine mesh strainer
- Amber glass tincture bottles (with dropper)
Place the herbs in the jar. Cover with alcohol or vegetable glycerin and cover.
Place in a dark place such as pantry or cabinet and shake occasionally. Leave for 4-6 weeks.
Strain the herbs from liquid and store in tincture bottle.
Take 1-2 dropperfuls 2-3 x a day.

Flu Therapy Syrup
combine rose hips, thyme, yarrow, mint in a jar with raw, unfiltered local honey. Take as needed.

- place a piece of plastic, such as saran wrap, on the counter.
2. Lay a clean cloth over that.
3. Spread herbs evenly to width of area it will be applied.
4. fold cloth top over bottom and side over side.
5. turn folded cloth over on the plastic square and apply directly to inflamed joints or area needed, You want the plastic to overlap the cloth just a little. The reason for the plastic is to protect clothing from staining,
6. apply directly to the area.

combine thyme with peppermint and rosemary

combine thyme with plantain

Infusion
In a jar, add boiling water to herbs and cover for 4 hrs up to overnight. Take a tsp 3 x a day for cough or for digestion.
Decoction
Much like an infusion, but helpful if you are short on time.
Simply place herbs in boiling water for 10-15 minutes and then strain.
