Part of the lily family and also know as Stinking Rose, Camphor of the Poor, Russian Penicillin.

This common vegetable bulb is a powerhouse in disguise.  Garlic kills many infections, boosts heart health, and cleanses the body.

Here are some illnesses it's treated just to name a few:

yeast

stomach bacteria

MRSA, staph

Herpes, simplex 1&2

Group B strep

Thrush

TB (drug resistant strains

HIV-1

Asthma- promotes histamine breakdown and helps keep the air passages of the lungs open

Healing Properties

  • Antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, anticancer properties, antibacterial
  • effective in reducing blood pressure & cholesterol levels making it beneficial to cardiovascular health
  • Moreover, many studies have demonstrated that garlic can be more effective as a broad-spectrum antibiotic compared with conventional antibiotics.
  • It's antibiotic action is much more effective when garlic is raw.  Unlike pharmaceutical antibiotics which lower the body's defense to fight against any future infections, garlic not only fights infection, but also stimulates the body's natural defenses.  (Medicinal Plants at Home).

Wow!  Isn't God's creation for us amazing?

Antibacterial Activity of Garlic

When garlic cloves are crushed, the cell walls are broken and Alliin is released.  When that combines with oxygen, Allicin is created.  This is  where the antibiotic properties are formed.  It's important to allow the garlic to rest for up to 10 minutes after crushing it to allow time to activate the antibiotic properties.  Of course, depending on where the garlic came from will depend on it's potency.  Garlic grown in your garden will be much more potent than that found in the grocery store.

There are been many studies.  Here are a few:

I am sharing a few recipes below, using garlic as medicine, that I have personally used for my family.

Personal Testimonials

I had an ear ache for several days and my hearing was a bit muffled.

I came home from work on the second day and made a garlic/mullein oil.  I put a few drops on a cotton ball and went to bed.  When I woke, there was no longer any pain.  I used the oil a few more times that day and my ear had cleared up.

I scraped my ankle on the screen door in the kitchen.  I put some antibacterial ointment on it and expected it to feel better the next day, but it got red around it and was hurting.  I could tell it was getting infected.  I tried other things on it for a week and then Dena had some GOOT and we rubbed it on it.  That was on Thursday, Thanksgiving day.  By Sunday, my ankle was no longer red around the area and looked so much better!  For the record, during WW1, crushed garlic was used to treat flesh wounds.

Recipes

Garlic as Penicillin

  • Take 2 normal cloves of garlic (or the amount you are using in a recipe) 2 Cloves = one dose penicillin, more or less.

  • Cut the hard ends off

  • Crush the with the flat size of a knife and your fist or other tool

  • Mince or press

  • Set aside for 10 minutes

  • Use in recipe OR take as medicine. There are some cool ways to take the garlic, like warming it in some honey, or mixing it with Ghee or non animal fat vegan fat like olive oil or coconut oil, etc. A fat helps calm its acidity in your gut.

  • Popular recipes that use raw, and now activated, garlic include hummus and salad dressings.

GOOT (Garlic Oil Ointment Treatment)

3 TBSP unrefined coconut oil

3 TBSP extra virgin olive oil

5 garlic cloves

Store in refrigerator up to 3 weeks.

How to use:

apply a small amount directly to the skin on affected areas like the chest for chest colds, feet for infections, or under the nostrils for sinus issues, allowing the raw garlic oil to be absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin.

Garlic oil

Ingredients:

The fastest way is to heat the olive oil in a small pan or double boiler (preferred) and add the minced garlic. Then, keep on very low heat for about 20 minutes to let the beneficial properties of the garlic infuse into the oil. At this point, strain the garlic and remove. I let the garlic cool to just skin temperature and place about two drops in the ear. The warmth and the oil often offer fast relief. This homemade product is not shelf stable, so I make a new batch of this mixture every 24 hours if needed rather than keeping the remaining oil to avoid any problems with contamination.

or you may choose to use a pre-made alternative like this one, Mullein Garlic Oil.

Fermented Honey Garlic

Here is a great recipe to use.  It's important to use raw honey!  This will keep for years in the pantry and just pop a clove to boost immune system or if you feel a cold or flu coming on.

If you can't find raw, local honey; manuka honey is a great alternative.
